On the Meaning of Life or the lack there of
Thursday, July 29, 2010

This is one of those times when ms chim gets chim. Don't read if u dun wanna kill ur brain cells.
FYI: this is not a suicide note neither is it promoting suicide.

Watched e movie called "Flow" today. It was disturbing on many levels. For one it actually managed to bring across a point without having to resort to blood and gore like many other documentaries do. For another, it talks about having to fight for "human rights" for water in this case. Then u start to think about how humanity has fallen to the point where u have to pay for water, for the right to live, the right to life.

And then the question of "What does Life mean? Whats the meaning of our existence?" comes up. Some people may say that to live is to be happy.
Then, what is this "happiness" that u speak of?
Oh, happiness is when u have ur friends and family around u and u have everything that u want.
What do u "want" then?
Money, car, house, etc.
This, I'd say is a meaningless existence for the wanting of objects never end. Money is not a meaningful end at all. E.g. I go to sch so that I can get a better job. With this job, I'll be able to buy the stuff I want and I'll be happy. But u're so wrong, for this "happiness" is only short term, before u start wanting something else better, more expensive. What is the meaning of owning an iPhone, a new laptop? We define owning things as being happy, but does this happiness have any meaning? Does it takes us anywhere beyond that short-lived exhileration (how spell ah) of owning it? In fact, we start to judge someone by their appearances and what they own. Even when u say "nahh I look at someone's character before I judge." LIAR! we judge a book by its cover on 1st sight whether u wanna admit to it or not. Is this "appearance" meaningful? Because when we trust our sight, we are ASSUMING what the other person is.(elaborated on next para)

When this meaningless'ness of life sets in, we're not aware of it but we start to seek the "meaning" to our lives. We seek this in someone else, in that other partner (bf/gf/spouse)we supposedly love. What is this love if not a means to seek a meaningful life? (pun not intended. lol)And then love has been erroded too. When we meet someone new, we assume something that they are from their appearances. When we assume, we project an image from our minds into that person. Therefore, that other person is not someone else, but you. You are the one thinking that this person is such and such (assumptions) and from these assumptions u like/dislike that person. If this is how we view our loved ones, a projection of an image from ourselves, then what are we doing but loving "ourselves"? What then, is the meaning of "romantic love"?

Even the basic necessities in our lives have been erroded. This time, by the market economy. Where water once used to be free for everyone's use, corporate companies are taking over water sources and claiming it for their own " so as to provide water to everyone". What right do they have to own that water source? For it is like saying "Because I am me, I own the air around us". When they pledged to provide water for "everyone", they're doing it for profits. People now have to PAY for water. How can the poor and destitute pay for this water? It's like telling them "pay, or die. Choose." Water shouldn't have to be a CHOICE for it IS a human right. Without water we'd die. These MNCs are asking people to pay for their lives. What are they doing if not putting a monetary value to lives? What is the meaning of life when the human rights of ppl have been taken away from them?

There has been a transformation of life and the way we live it ever since the start of a capitalist economy and people are only starting to understand the ramifications of this monster which consumes everything in its path. It is inevitable. Yet, we have to come up with solutions to adapt. If not, then life has really lost its meaning.

In conclusion, I end with this song, which kinda puts into context how people judge by appearance and how "cool" u are. (psst, I like this song, but it's like applicable so I put it here lol)
